This post was delayed due to being down with a virus. Not me, the computer! As Pooh bear would say, "Oh, bother!" Anyway, after some "treatment" the PC is back up and running again, and just in time for the latest Deez newz:
Monday's consult with another orthopedist was more informative. The collective "word" is that the only way to get Derek's shoulder operating is.... operating! He had a CT scan on it today to give them a more detailed look, and will visit the doctor again next Monday for followup and probably surgery scheduling.
Wednesday is radiation day for the brain lesions - Stereotactic RadioSurgery, that is. Derek will spend most of the day at St. Joseph's Cancer Center for the out-patient procedure: First, a head frame, or "halo," device will be afixed to his skull; next, a CT scan; then, he will occupy the waiting room for a few hours while the SRS Team maps out and calculates their precision moves. Lunch will be provided, and the radiation should take place sometime in early afternoon.
Keith: "Are you ready for tomorrow?"
Derek: "Bring it!"

Can't tell you how much we admire your spirit, Derek . . . your smile is contagious. We pray for you every single day, and tomorrow the prayer will be for our God Almighty to have His Hand on that "stereo...whatever" machine so that it will zero in precisely and permanently zap all the bad stuff forever and ever.
Then your Dad can take you all out for pizza. ;-)
Derek, your bravery though all this is amazing, I wish I could be around to show more support, but know there are people in southwest Missouri praying for you! On a side note, I play in a softball league also and our season ended last night, but I hit my first homerun. It was awesome.
We love - and depend on - our technical ways of keeping in touch. Computer crashes and viruses are not allowed (Mom says!) because we feel empowered in our support when our prayer/thoughts can be with you. -- and they are. Thanks, Donna, for keeping all of Derek's halos polished.
