First Week of August

On Monday, Derek went in for his second infusion of chemo meds, this time a 2nd stronger drug was added, for a total of 3 hours. He had no problems, as usual, and was anxious to get to Chipotle for a big burrito lunch afterwards. Now beginning the 9 to 14 day weakened immunity system stage, he will be needing to take extra care to steer clear of germs and viruses, while taking daily injections of a blood cell booster for the next seven days.

On Tuesday, Derek had appointments at UCSF Cancer Center to see the Orthopaedic oncologist again to go over scan results, and also to consult with a Radiation oncologist. His medical team is covering the bases to be prepared for any future treatment needed. There was nothing much new today. Due to the mixed results from the first chemo treatments (some lesions shrinking, some growing), the consensus is to continue more systemic treatment with chemo. When the current course is finished in 8 weeks, there will be more scans and then reassessment at that time.

On Wednesday, we'll be celebrating Derek's 31st birthday!
