Derek met with the Neurosurgeon and Chief Physicist from the local Cancer Center's SRS team today and received the "thumbs up" to go ahead with the proposed Stereotactic RadioSurgery. Results from yesterday's MRI were as positive as we could hope: (1) No additional lesions were found; and, (2) the locations of the five spots are the best case scenario for brain treatment, as they are not in the most vulnerable areas. The procedure is scheduled for next Wednesday, Aug. 26th.
The shoulder issue is still causing sleepness nights. With swelling now subsided, somehow the area giving Derek continual discomfort is his wrist! The aching comes and goes, but doesn't "go" long enough for more than a couple hours of sleep at a time. And, last night he developed a headache, adding to the sleep challenge - for all three of us. Keith and I went on full alert, each "sleeping" with one eye open as we monitored Derek's condition and hoped that the anti-seizure medications were doing their job. They did, and all is well, except for our collective sleep deprivation. Tonight, we'll try, try again!

Thank you Donna for the prompt report. Next Wednesday is on my claendar to "be with all of you" as Derek goes into the zapping chambers. Meanwhile, where are the pain medications that will allow good sleep for Derek - and allow parents to relax? Help!
Whoops - it's tough to "be perfect" all the time. Excuse the typos --- (Claendar vs calendar).
He's taking a pain med at night, but it doesn't seem to address the specific area bothering him. Maybe we'll find out more at today's appts. Last night I slept very well, and feel refreshed. :)
Thanks for the updates, continued prayer for the three of you to get some sleep.
Derek continues to amaze me. Gotta love that attitude. I hope he got to see everyone he wanted to at his job. I think you were leaving to do that the last time we spoke. I am anxious to see how this works. Derek simply continues to fight a good fight. Our God is an Awesome God and the faith this man shows is almost more than most of us can handle.. Praying for you always..... T
