Sleep Interrupted

At home recovering this weekend, uninterrupted sleep has been Derek's biggest challenge. He noted that this is the first time in his life he has had a broken bone, and so the associated pain and discomfort is all new to him. Even with the surgeries he has had in the past, pain has never been an issue, so he rarely has taken anything more than an occasional Tylenol. Using a sling day and night, his search for a comfortable sleep position has taken him from his bed to a recliner. Still, he has been waking a few times a night for one reason or another.

The "football shoulder" has returned to its normal size now, and we have watched the swelling and bruising move gradually down the arm to elbow and now to forearm. His post-seizure medications tend to make him sleepy in the mornings, so he doesn't get up until close to noon. Sitting through a Sunday morning service proved too much to attempt while "under the influence" today, so we whisked him right back home to finish his morning snooze. No worries, Pastor, it wasn't the sermon. :)

First on this week's agenda will be another MRI on Tuesday, then to see the neurosurgeon Wednesday who must give the final go-ahead for radiation treatment. Until then, one night of good sleep is still a goal. And somehow, even as a lefty, he can beat us in backgammon!

Thanks for the continuing updates. This may be the night for good sleep. You're all due for an uninterrupted 8-hour release into peaceful slumber. Pictures are appreciated.

Keith and I have had a couple of good night-long stretches of sleep, but not yet for Derek. Another restless night Sunday so he is relying on meds to help out this morning. The arm is a pain!

Today our most sincere prayer is that you all get that most needed slumbering rest you require. Derek, may your shoulder's healing process leave it stronger and tougher than before. We already know how tough you are . . . you handled our spoiled Max with no trouble at all. :-) BTW, he's still spoiled just moving a bit slower. We love the updates and pictures, Donna . . . first thing we head for when the computers come on in the mornings. Jamie's blog too. It's great to see her "blooming."
Looking forward to more. All of you take care and God bless.
