Lights and Sirens

The neighborhood was lit up with lights and sirens this afternoon, due to another seizure episode that came on at about 5:00 pm. EMT's arrived promptly and transported Derek, in altered consciousness, to the hospital ER, where he "came to" with no recollection of the events. As we followed the ambulance, I contacted the doctor's office and left a message notifying him of the situation. Labwork was done, and the Dilantin (anti-seizure) level was too low. By a stroke of providence, just as the attending doctor was about to prescribe a medication adjustment, Derek's doctor came around the corner. He changed the dosage, gave us new instructions for follow-up, and said we could go on home. We happily did just that. Tonight, pain management testing will resume, with a better night of sleep still the goal.

Shortly after we arrived home, we got a call and spoke with Jamie, who had just touched down on California soil after her long day of flights from Minneapolis to Salt Lake City to Sacramento. We are excited to see her and exchange lots of hugs!

09-09-09-oh my! The mind does a wonderful thing in its ability to have "no memory" in traumatic times, but caregivers thankfully rise to the occasion. Glad that Derek's doctor was on hand making the ER viist shorter. Welcome "home" Jamie!! I know God and all of you hear my love.
