We have learned that charge nurse 'promises' are shifting sand. Not only did no private rooms become available (to Derek), but he got a roommate on Monday which effectively bumped me from any further overnighters. With most patients on the floor long-term and needing isolated environments, he couldn't exactly qualify for a move. But, that's a good status to have and we're not complaining.
He has, in fact, been doing so well that he is pretty much taking care of himself. A favorite nurse from his first round was back yesterday, and confided that she had specifically requested him because he's such an easy patient! :) He keeps himself entertained, does his walking, eats his meals, and makes rounds for the medical teams short and sweet with his "no problems" reports each day. He also enjoyed visits from a few friends and relations who dropped in.
Today his IV meds are being accelerated to finish by 5:00pm or so, and then he will be all set to go home! He can't wait, and neither can we!
Wed. Night Update: Discharge went quickly this time-- We left the hospital shortly after 5:00 p.m. and made it home by 9:30 p.m. after stopping for a yummy dinner in Livermore. :)

Congratulations on that "perfect patient" compliment, it's well-deserved! ("Perfect parents of a patient" would be right for Donna & Keith, too)
