To the Hills

The holiday season is already well underway, and we are "bracing" ourselves, if that's even possible, for times that we know will be emotionally challenging. For Thanksgiving weekend, Keith and I thought we'd ease into the season with a quiet getaway to the foothills. We had made reservations at a nice RV Park last January for this 4-day weekend as a contingency plan, at the time considering that Derek's work schedule rarely allowed him to travel anywhere with us, and this location was close enough for him to drive up and join us for a Thanksgiving meal and some family time whenever he was available.

With that scenario no longer a factor, and for this first Thanksgiving without Derek, we thought, how better to take a break from "the valley" than to head for the hills? So, we decided to keep the reservations. The location will be ideal for day trips around the area, and the amenities at the park are conducive to relaxing and refreshing (the whirlpool spas will likely get some use).

While there, we plan to reread a basketful of sympathy cards that we received during the big blur of the past couple of months. So many heartfelt sentiments, thoughtful notes, and continuous prayers helped to keep us going each day. Now, we want to absorb, again, those messages of care and concern, and give thanks for all who have been "circling wagons" around us in our time of need, loss and grief. Thanksgiving will be a good way to begin healing.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."
Psalm 121:1-2

Perfect plans. Travel safely - and absorb the beauties of nature (love the pictures!). "This is my Father's World" - all nature sings.
We may have a Chipotle lunch one of these days in Derek's honor.

Thanks, Mom. The pictures are from previous trips, this time we may see some fall foliage. Chipotle and Eegees will always bring Derek to mind. With his big smile!

I had never eaten Chipotle but in honor of Derek I have been eating it. He loved it so I thought it must be good. Just another memory of sweet Derek. Have a good time and safe trip. Love Mom and Cliff
