Our drive over to the City on Wednesday afternoon went much better. With help from a dear friend who covered my final hour of work, we were able to get a head-start on the commute and it made all the difference. Thanks, Laurie! We had no traffic issues whatsoever, made the drive in record time, zipped across the Bay Bridge at no charge thanks to our Prius stickers, and even had time to make a stop near the hospital to pick up a Jamba Juice treat to bring with us to the patient. Oh, and we treated ourselves, too. :)
Derek's dinner tray arrived and he had ordered a chicken quesadilla, which he said was pretty good. He has had no problems with nausea or appetite changes so his weight has remained constant. It also appears that the tumor on his leg is shrinking, just as the doctors had predicted it would this week. It is amazing to see God's healing power at work. After his dinner, we all just relaxed and rested for awhile in his room - then I joined him on a 6-lap power walk, about half a mile. His determination seems to be coming into play a bit more to overcome sleepiness and tendency to want to just stay in bed. In the lounge, the Laker/Nuggets game entertained and Derek trounced us both in backgammon matches.
Check-out time is being scheduled for tonight! The final chemo treatment was given this morning and as soon as the final medication is finished at 6pm, he will be discharged. We're looking forward to having him back home, where he will continue to recover until the next round begins in about 3 weeks.
We are thankful for the ever-widening circle of support lifting Derek and our family in prayer!

Keith and Donna, I am so pleased that things seem to be going so well. It's great to read Derek is not feeling the ill effects of the chemo. It's also fantastic that he is doing everything his doctors are telling him.
I'm sure you know having family and friends close is a great comfort and just as important as the medical treatments.
Just be sure you two take care of yourselves too. I know from experience how stressful this can be. It seems you two are being strong for Derek but he's also being just as strong for you two.
