Greetings from San Francisco! 5/24/09

On Saturday afternoon Derek was admitted to UCSF 11th Floor, Room 1105 Long. There was a snag with the semi-private room where he was scheduled to go, however. The other patient was a Peterson. The nurses wanted nothing to do with that confusion, so they did some shuffling and he ended up in a private room. Blessings already! Not only is it nice for privacy and extra space, but also allows a family member to stay overnight. So, that is what I happily did! The evening was busy with processing details - various doctors and nurses stopping by for exams, introductions and information. At 11pm the chemo IV was started, and Derek had a fairly good night of sleep.

CURRENT STATUS: So far, so good!
He had breakfast and a walk, which is recommended 4 times a day or so.
The hospital staff are wonderful and eager to accommodate his every need, and Derek is learning to "ask and ye shall receive." It's more service than he is used to at home. :)

Visitor & Contact Questions:
Yes, visitors are welcome, unless you are under age 12 or sick. Check top link for directions.
The parking garage charges $3/hour. BART to Embarcadero, and the "N Judah" muni goes to the hospital, too.
Derek has cell-phone signal and occasional Internet access.

You know Turlock has more churchs per capita, and a good many of them are praying for Derek and the family, because of all our neighbors and friends, so stay strongloved ones.
