Labor Day weekend: BBQ's, boating, back-to-school sales, Jerry Lewis telethon, and - "Are you ready for some football?" - the official kick-off of football season! For the men of our household, it always meant new hope for a 49ers winning season, and the kick-off of their Fantasy Football Leagues, too.
This year, as always, Keith is gearing up for the drafts - some with physical gatherings, others on the Internet. A new League has sprung up within the family, as the Pickle football fans are trying out a league of their own. Jamie is jumping into that action with her own team, having participated with Chris in his family league and last year in his office league.
Of course, it's different this year. FFL brings to mind Derek's unabashed love of the games, his unbounded enthusiasm, and dedication to making the most of whatever he enjoyed. Only a year ago, he drafted his teams, undaunted as he battled increasing physical struggles. Among others, the "Derek Petersen Fantasy Football League" kicks off this weekend. I expect he'll be cheering on his dad and sister as they carry on the tradition. And we'll be remembering our favorite fan.
P.S. Go Niners!
