Another month went by, and now it's August and birthday week! Some 33 years ago, I was surprised to find myself experiencing little contractions on a Friday afternoon, TEN days before my due date and the day after my birthday. Since Jamie had been two weeks late, I was naively expecting a similar scenario with my second. Off to the hospital we went, expecting to be sent home with "false labor." But, no - after an exam, Dr. Lee proclaimed, "You will have baby tonight!" Sure enough, Derek came along about four hours later, just after midnight on August 5th. Fourteen-month-old Jamie was very excited about her baby brother!
This year, we are celebrating Derek's birthday in a GIANT way. That is, the San Francisco Giant way. Now that the team has won it's first World Championship, they are installing brick borders on the plazas surrounding AT&T Ballpark. To raise funds, bricks were being sold with custom inscriptions from fans. We thought, what a perfect birthday gift for Derek, to have his name placed on the brand new "World Champions Walk!" A few fellow fans chipped in, and the brick was purchased - just a couple of weeks before they were Sold Out.
So, sometime prior to Opening Day 2012, the brick will be installed in a permanent tribute to a faithful fan. The SF Giants' World Champion Walk seems like a great place to pay tribute to our World Champion Son.
Happy Birthday, Derek!
