It was definitely an Escape, and it was definitely Great! The long-anticipated vacation with Jamie, Chris and Kendall materialized near the end of January when we all traveled to Hawaii's Big Island. Keith and I escaped the fog, and the Stavengers escaped the snow for nine glorious days in the sun. There couldn't have been a more pleasant setting for family time: Perfect weather; comfortable accommodations; refreshing pool - not to mention the scenic beauty surrounding us!
Grandma and Grandpa time was... grand! At 13 months old, Kendall was eagerly transitioning to walking, taking every opportunity to grab hands or push her stroller around. And, she quickly found that pooltime was fun, fun, fun! Keith and I soaked up her hugs and snuggles, giggles and wiggles. A few short excursions and activities entertained us, but most of all, this Petersen Family Vacation provided the opportunity to rediscover times of joy, together. When the poolside music included a Hawaiian arrangement of U2's "In the Name of Love," we stopped to listen, and smile - always thankful for those random "Derek moments" that warm our hearts and reassure us of his presence, and His presence.
